China's Rare Earth Imports And Exports In The First Quarter Of 2022
2022-04-21
China's rare earth exports reached 12,680.2 tons in the first quarter of 2022, up 6.5% year on year, and the value of rare earth exports reached 244.2 million US dollars, up 78% year on year, according to import and export data released by the General Administration of Customs on Wednesday(13th,Apr.).
Data released by Association Of China Rare Earth Industry shows that the price index of rare earth in China has been soaring since the first quarter of this year, and the price has been falling since March, as shown in the figure below:
In addition, in the first quarter of 2022, the imported rare earth quantity was 30,318.1 tons, down 13.1% year on year. Imports amounted to about US $325.3 million, up only 0.3% year on year
Through calculation, we can find that the average price of exported rare earth is about $19,260 per ton, the average price of imported rare earth is about $10,730 per ton, export is 1.8 times higher than that of import.
Even if China is still the world's largest exporter of rare earths, some industry observers predict that export would fall in the coming months as the country's production capacity faces obstacles. The main border gate between China and Myanmar has been closed again since the beginning of the year, posing a serious challenge to the diversion of raw material supplies and further price volatility.
In addition, rare earth companies in Ganzhou, one of China's largest rare earth production bases, have cut capacity by at least 25 percent from last year's levels.
From the perspective of the development of the whole Rare Earth Industry, under the active promotion of the Rare Earth Office and key rare earth enterprises such as China Rare Earth Group, North Rare Earth Group and Shenghe Resources Company, the product price of the rare earth industry is gradually returning to a rational and sustainable development road.
